Guzmán’s arrest followed a infamous 2019 incident by which he was briefly detained at a home from the northern Mexican city of Culiacan, but was later on introduced following cartel gunmen flooded the city and held civilians hostage. Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador ordered Guzmán released in order to avoid much more bloodshed.
